5th Consultant's Meeting on
R-matrix Codes for Charged-particle Reactions in the Resolved-Resonance Region
Motivation
Discuss the results of exercise Test 2:
The purpose of Test 2 was to compare the minimization techniques adopted by the different codes, i.e. how the codes reach the local minimum from a given starting point. For this purpose a consistent set of experimental data was selected, including one data set for each channel (α,α), (p,p), (α,p) and (p,α). In addition, the starting input parameters were defined carefully so that convergence to a fully concave-upward minimum is possible. The minima as well as the covariance matrices were compared.
The initial conditions as well as the experimental data including references and normalization conditions were set by G. Hale and R.J. DeBoer.
Specific topics discussed in relation to Test 2:
- degrees of freedom
- scaling of data
- converting from covariances of parameters to covariances of cross sections
- correlations between normalisation and resonance parameters
- quality of experimental data and corrections in the EXFOR database
