Carlson; Mark Chadwick Subject: Standards evaluation results Phil, Patrick and Toshihiko, Responding to Mark's "to do" list from the CSEWG meeting, the following are the ENDF/B-VII standards for the 6Li(n,t), Au(n,g), 235U(n,f) and 238U(n,f) cross sections. Also included are cross sections for the 238U(n,g) and 239Pu(n,f) reactions resulting from the evaluation, which are not standards. The thermal constants results are also given. Also given below are some comments from Vladimir Pronyaev and me concerning the evaluation. Note the comments preceding the cross section list for each nuclide. The hydrogen results will be sent in a separate email. Allan -------------------------------------------------- Results of the IAEA CRP on "Standards" using the PROGRAM GMA V.Pronyaev's NOTES (29 October 2004) and Allan Carlson's comments: The Code and Database, are as to was on 29 October 2004. The combined result using all lithium and boron data in the R-matrix analyses (except ratios involving these cross sections) as input to GMA (which has the ratio data for the lithium and boron cross sections and ratio and cross section data for the Au(n,g), 238U(n,g), 235U(n,f), 238U(n,f), and 239Pu(n,f) reactions) gives a Chi-square of the fit of 0.84. The fit includes 4726 data points given at the energy nodes or as integral parameters. Since the R-matrix analysis for boron only used the RAC boron data, the boron cross sections are not finalized. It is anticipated that the boron evaluation will be completed by December 2004. The hydrogen evaluation is complete up to 20 MeV. It is anticipated that the evaluation will be extended to 200 MeV by February 2005. At that time the 235U, 238U and 239Pu fission cross sections will be extended to 200MeV. The 3He(n,p) evaluation is underway and should be completed by November 30, 2004. The small uncertainties in the lithium cross section (at low energy) are the result of low (about 0.2%) pre-evaluated uncertainties for data at thermal energy and the use of R-matrix analyses which due to intrinsic model correlations propagate these small uncertainties to higher energies. Also model fits reduce the variances but increase near-diagonal covariances of evaluated data. For evaluation of any integral data which use these evaluated data, a full covariance matrix of evaluated data should be used, including cross-reaction covariance blocks which will be made available next year. The full covariance matrix of evaluated data is a positive definite matrix of size 1079*1079 The uncertainties and covariances for all cross sections will not be released at this time. These data will be provided next year. Results are given at low energies for the 235U(n,f), 238U(n,g), and 239Pu(n,f) cross sections. These are not in the region where the 235U(n,f) and 238U(n,f) cross sections are standards. Evaluations that use a larger database than that used in this evaluation may have better results in this energy region, e.g. 235U fission cross sections in the keV energy region obtained using fission, capture and transmission data. GAUSS-MARKOV-AITKEN LEAST SQUARES NUCLEAR DATA EVALUATION Code by W.P.POENITZ,ANL INVERTED SOLUTION MATRIX RESULTS FOR 6Li(n,t) This is a recommended as a standard below 1 MeV. Log-log interpolation up to 500 keV. Linear-linear interpolation above 500 keV. Caution is recommended when using this cross section as a standard in the region of the 240 keV resonance.
